Three-year-old Gianna lights up every room she enters. She is sweet, joyful, and incredibly determined. Even when things are hard, Gianna works with a smile—especially because she wants to keep up with her twin brother, Jaxson. She absolutely adores him and her three older siblings, who are some of her biggest cheerleaders.
Gianna has been diagnosed with MPPH Syndrome, Bilateral Generalized Polymicrogyria, and Cerebral Palsy. While these diagnoses bring significant challenges, they have never defined her spirit. Gianna is motivated to do all the things her body is still learning how to do, and she shows up every single day ready to work.
Because of that determination—and the dedication of her parents, Michelle and Frankie—Gianna has already made incredible progress.
When Gianna first began DMI (Dynamic Movement Intervention) therapy, she couldn’t even hold her head up. Today, she is working toward standing and walking independently. The progress has been remarkable, and it’s a direct result of intensive, specialized therapies during this critical window of brain development and neuroplasticity.
To continue building on these gains, Gianna works with some of the best DMI therapists in the country. Unfortunately, this therapy is not covered by insurance. At $190 per session, attending therapy three times a week for most of the year adds up to over $25,000 annually.
Gianna also has the opportunity to attend intensive therapy at All Kids Are Perfect (AKAP) in North Carolina, where some of the top specialists combine DMI, occupational therapy, and other advanced techniques designed to help the brain build new pathways for movement and independence. Gianna has made great progress during previous visits, and the goal is to continue during this critical time when her brain is most responsive to change.
The family is hoping to complete two AKAP intensives—one three-week session and one two-week session. With travel and lodging, the cost is approximately $5,000 per week.
In addition, Gianna struggles with chewing and frequently gags while eating, so the family is seeking help from Nancy from NJPFA, a leading expert in swallow therapy. This specialized therapy, combined with on-the-fly DMI techniques, will help Gianna learn how to eat safely and independently. This intensive is approximately $3,000, not including travel.
These therapies come on top of many ongoing expenses Michelle and Frankie already cover out of pocket, including hippotherapy, DMI sessions, medical care, and other essential supports.
It’s also important to understand the scale families face: raising a child with a disability can cost between $1.4 and $2.4 million by the age of 18, nearly ten times what it typically costs to raise a neurotypical child. This journey isn’t an even playing field, which is why community support matters so deeply.
But Gianna’s story is one of hope and progress.
A little girl who once couldn’t hold her head up is now working toward walking independently.
How do you put a price on physical independence?
This page was created to help support the Radice family so Gianna can continue accessing the therapies that are helping her grow stronger, more capable, and more independent every day.
Michelle will share updates here so everyone can follow along on Gianna’s journey. Your support—whether through a gift, a share, or encouragement—helps make these life-changing opportunities possible.
Thank you for being part of Gianna’s village. 💛
The Radice family is transitioning from their GoFundMe to a SupportNow page. This platform allows more of each gift to go directly into the hands of the family, helping them maximize the support Gianna needs for therapy, travel, and care while keeping their community updated along the way
