Free fundraising platforms
Nearly every platform is free to start, so the word free stopped separating them. What separates them is what happens to a donation after it arrives, and whether the free version covers anything besides money.
Here, free means free for the family. Nothing to create a page, a 0% platform fee on donations, and no upgrade hiding meals, volunteer to-dos, or updates. Meal Train® charges for help beyond meals,8 and Give InKind and CaringBridge do not process donations for families,6,7 so most families in a hard season would need more than one tool.
Fundraising platforms with no fees
No platform moves money for nothing, because card processing costs something everywhere. The real question is who carries that cost, and whether the platform adds a fee of its own on top of it.
Meal Train® and Help Hope Live add a fee of their own before processing is counted.2 Spotfund and GiveSendGo add no platform fee and ask supporters for a tip that goes to the platform.4 SupportNow charges a 0% platform fee and lets each supporter decide who covers processing: an optional RoundUp, or a 2.7% fee from the gift. When they add a RoundUp, the family keeps 100%.3
