Camilla is 3 years old and has been diagnosed with a 2–amino acid deletion on the SF3B2 gene, which means her body has a tiny change in the instructions that help cells process and “edit” genetic messages correctly. When this process doesn’t work as expected, it can affect muscle control, movement, and overall development, especially how the brain and body communicate. For Camilla, this shows up most clearly in her physical mobility and core strength.
And yet—Camilla is pure spark ✨ She’s a total girly pop, blasting Post Malone, loving Butterfly Wonderland, soaking up Modern Family, and showing up as a full-on firecracker everywhere she goes. Her joy is unmistakable.
Recently, we were introduced to Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) therapy at —and it has the potential to be truly life-changing for her.
Why DMI matters for Camilla
- DMI focuses on helping the brain and body build stronger movement patterns
- Sitting independently would be a huge milestone and open up so much freedom
- Gaining the ability to move more freely and confidently could change her day-to-day life
- The therapists strongly recommended that Camilla participate in intensive DMI sessions to give her the best possible chance at progress
What an intensive includes
- 2-week intensive sessions
- Both Physical Therapy (PT)
- All provided through the DMI lens
The financial reality
- Each intensive costs about $4,800
- Insurance does not cover DMI — most providers do not accept it at all
- The goal is three intensives this year, which is a big stretch
- There is also a time limit: once Camilla reaches 35 pounds, she will no longer qualify for this treatment
