Cristiano contracted Bacterial Meningitis at three weeks old and literally had to fight for his life. He suffered a brain injury, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) from meningitis. Despite overcoming the odds, there are still many obstacles in Cristiano’s way, including the numerous medical conditions that have come along with the HIE. Through all this, Cristiano remains the happiest little boy you will ever meet, he exudes joy and brightens up the lives of all that he meets.

Now three years old, Cristiano is determined to achieve independence. He is working tirelessly to sit and stand on his own. It is essential that we find effective ways for Cristiano to communicate, as he may experience frustration like any toddler will.  While he is recieveing speech therapy at school, we are looking into starting up outpatient AAC therapy with our local Childrens Specialized Hospital to help him get some extra help.

We have recently embarked on a new series of therapy called MNRI.   MNRI is reflex integration,  we started seeing her in regards to speech/feeding, but I believe this therapy will be beneficial across the board for him.  I am including two links below that can help explain MNRI.  We are currently doing once a week through January and February, then the first week of March he will be doing a one-week intensive, 3 hours straight a day.  Each hour of therapy we do is $200 our private insurance doesn't cover ANY of it until we hit our out-of-pocket deductible and his Medicaid doesn't accept any out-of-network.  So, we have been using some of the remaining funds from all of your generous donations.
