Help Keep Kayla & Luca Safe at Home After the Sudden Loss of Daniel

Goal: $25000

On September 19, 2026, Kayla Ferrucci-Herzberg’s life changed in an instant when her husband, Daniel Ferrucci-Herzberg, died suddenly and unexpectedly at just 38 years old.

Daniel was Kayla’s husband of seven years, the devoted father of their four-year-old son, Luca, and the primary financial provider for their family. Kayla and Luca were his whole world. Everything he built, worked for, and dreamed about was centered around giving them a safe and happy life.

Now, in the middle of overwhelming grief, Kayla is terrified that she could lose the home they built together.

And Daniel’s death is only the latest in an almost unimaginable series of losses this family has endured.

Just one week before losing her husband, Kayla lost her brother.

Over the past year, she has also endured a debilitating back and spinal injury that left her unable to walk for an extended period of time, as well as the devastating second-trimester loss of her and Daniel’s unborn son, James.

There is simply no reasonable way to expect Kayla to immediately turn from all of this grief and trauma to searching for a job. Right now, her job is getting through each day, caring for Luca, helping a four-year-old understand why his dad is not coming home, and figuring out how to rebuild a life she never expected to have to face without her soulmate and best friend Daniel beside her.

That is why we are asking our community to help.

Our initial goal is to raise $10,000 to help Kayla and Luca with the immediate financial burden ahead, including:

  • Mortgage and household expenses so they can remain in their home

  • Funeral and memorial expenses

  • Utilities, groceries, transportation, and other everyday necessities

  • Childcare and expenses related to caring for Luca

  • Medical and other outstanding family expenses

  • Financial breathing room while Kayla grieves and determines what comes next for their family

Anyone who knows Kayla knows that she is one of the kindest and most generous people you could ever meet. She is the person who shows up. She takes care of people. She gives what she has, even when she does not have much to spare.

Daniel was much the same. He built community everywhere he went.

Those of us who knew and loved Daniel know what he would be worried about most right now:

Are Kayla and Luca going to be okay?

We want the answer to be yes.

If you are able to give, any amount will help provide stability during a time when almost everything in their lives suddenly feels uncertain. A gift of $25 helps put groceries on the table. $50 can help with utilities or gas. $100, $250, or more can help keep a mortgage payment covered and give Kayla more time before she has to make enormous decisions about her family’s future.

If you cannot donate, please share this fundraiser. Sharing it with Daniel’s engineering and SOLIDWORKS communities, Alpha Phi Omega friends, coworkers, neighbors, theater friends, gaming friends, and everyone whose life crossed paths with this family can make an enormous difference.

Kayla has spent so much of her life taking care of other people.

Now it is our turn to take care of her and Luca.

Please help us raise $10,000 so that, in the midst of losing the person who meant everything to them, Kayla and Luca do not also have to fear losing the security of their home.

Every donation, every share, and every person who chooses to show up for them matters.

Thank you for helping us surround Kayla and Luca with the same love and generosity that Daniel gave so freely throughout his life.
