We do know he will need physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy indefinitely. He will have to work incredibly hard to retain his mobility, balance, and ability to speak, as mitochondrial disease is progressive in nature. He will be under the care of many specialists regularly, including neurologists, geneticists, cardiologist, ophthalmologist, neuro-ophthalmologists. and others. He will have teams of specialists in the Atlanta area, but we will also need to travel up to Philadelphia to oversee his care at CHOP annually at minimum.
We want Felix to have the best care possible, including access to home services and the chance to travel for new treatments and trials. We also want to do everything we can to help Felix enjoy all of the joy of being a “normal” little boy.
Thank you for helping us. If you can, please also consider donating to UMDF.org to support research for new treatments and a cure.
