On the morning of January 6th, 2026 our family’s worst fears came true. My brother in law was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Frederick, MD by the Sheetz off Executive Way. He committed no crime. He was simply on his way to work. Uriel is a beloved husband, father, brother and friend. Uriel devotes his time alongside my sister in raising their three beautiful boys who have varying degrees of autism. His detention has left my sister suddenly alone caring for their children. In addition to the emotional toll of family separation, the loss of Uriel’s presence and income has created urgent financial and caregiving challenges. Managing therapies, daily routines, medical needs, housing, and basic living expenses has become overwhelming during this already traumatic time.
- Housing and utilities
- Food and transportation
- Therapy and care-related expenses for the children
- Legal and family support costs
- Daily living expenses while the family navigates this uncertainty
Any contribution—no matter the size—will make a meaningful impact in helping my sister care for her children and maintain a sense of security during an incredibly painful time.
