Hello, family and friends!ย
We want to share a bit about our incredible daughter, Mila. Sheโs 8 years old and was born with a rare genetic condition called Alkuraya-Kucinskas syndrome, which has caused epilepsy, cerebral palsy, intellectual and physical disabilities.ย
Mila had her first visible seizure at just 7 months old, lasting an unimaginable 45 minutes. Shortly after, we moved back home to Washington, and her seizures quickly became more severe. Within 8 months, she was admitted to the PICU 10 times for life-threatening seizures (status epilepticus). Those months were some of the hardest of our lives. The constant seizures caused lasting damage to her brain and led to the loss of skills she had worked so hard to gain โ skills sheโs still fighting to recover today.ย
Despite it all, Mila continues to amaze us. She has endured multiple surgeries, countless hospital stays, and more challenges than any child should have to face. And yet, she meets every day with strength, resilience, and the brightest smile. She truly is the heart of our family.ย
Mila now relies on a wheelchair for mobility and on us to lift and transfer her between rooms, equipment, and vehicles. As she grows โ and as our family grows too โ weโve realized how much we need a wheelchair-accessible van to safely transport her to appointments, therapies, and family outings.ย
A wheelchair van would mean freedom, comfort, and safety for Mila โ and peace of mind for us as her parents. It would make the world just a little more accessible for our girl.ย
