On June 16, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m., tragic news struck our family.
Jason has always been the first person to jump in his truck and head out to help whenever there was a fire emergency. From a young age, he volunteered with the local volunteer fire department and has always been dedicated to helping others in times of need. He has spent countless hours serving and protecting our community.
This time, however, the call was for his own home.
As he stood helplessly watching, a devastating fire in Covelo consumed his house and everything he owned. He called my sister Kelly in tears as the flames destroyed not only his home, but also all the equipment he relied on to run his business. He was unable to recover any of his or his two daughters belongings.
Jason is a single father with primary custody of his two young daughters. In a matter of minutes, he lost his home, his livelihood, and everything he had worked so hard to build. His two daughters lost everything they owned in the fire as well.
This loss is especially heartbreaking for our family because the home was a beautiful strawbale cabin that Jason and our late father built mostly with their own hands. My dad and Jason broke ground on the cabin in March, 2004 and finished before the rains came the same year. The cabin was used between 2004 and 2013 as my dad's favorite getaway place for the weekends. He loved looking down at the beautiful Round Valley from the 10 acre property. He loved having BBQ up on the hill and inviting friends and family to join him. My siblings and I spent many weekends at the cabin with my father.
When our father passed away in 2013, my siblings and I purchased the property from our stepmother, so that this beautiful cabin would remain in our family since it held so many special memories with our late father.
5 years ago, Jason added on a large bedroom for the girls and a bathroom onto the Strawbale cabin to turned it into a family home for him and his daughters (after getting primary custody of them). It was more than just a house, it was a place filled with love, memories, and years of hard work. Our hearts are broken.
Unfortunately, the house did not have fire insurance due to it's remote location in Mendocino County.
We are reaching out to you all, as we are in need of immediate support to help Jason and his daughters rebuild their lives. Your kindness and generosity would mean the world to them. Here's how you can help:
