Hello, family and friends!
As many of you know, our mom had a planned heart valve replacement surgery for aortic stenosis, and it went great. But later, she started having severe stomach pain. It was very intense, and even with medication, it didn't fully go away. On Friday, she wasn't feeling much better, and a walk was very tough for her. The doctors ran some tests and found a serious issue with her stomach. She needed surgery to fix a small bowel obstruction. Thankfully, she didn’t need another surgery afterward, but she stayed in the ICU for close monitoring and was on a ventilator until her condition improved.
Mom’s been slowly getting better. Today, Sunday, they took out the ventilator, which was amazing news. While she’s still in some pain, the doctors are keeping her comfortable with medication. It's a tough recovery, but things are moving in the right direction. The doctors expect she’ll need to stay in the hospital for another 7-10 days to make sure everything heals properly. We feel good about the extra care she’s getting and hopeful that she’s on the mend. Today she will have the cath removed and get some PT to get her sitting up but mostly a day of rest.
