We were forced to take him to the Emergency Veterinary Clinic in Topeka where it was quickly confirmed that he had crystals in his urine that were blocking his bladder and making it impossible to urinate.
Without immediate intervention, Vincent would have died a very painful death from kidney failure.
I had to save our Vincey. He is my 6-yr-old daughter Lily's best friend on Earth. When my youngest daughter, Alia, was born, he guarded her bassinet.
He is the calmest, most patient, and affectionate cat I have ever seen with children. He was born to love.
The Emergency Veterinary Clinic gave him the very best care possible.
He now has a temporary catheter to drain his bladder. He was given antibiotics, pain medication, and continuous fluids to flush his kidneys and bladder and hopefully clean out any remaining crystals.
He is now home, but still has a catheter and is on the equivalent of bedrest (confined to a kennel and wearing a cone to prevent him from pulling out his catheter). He is eating and resting well.
We continued care with a local vet at Gentle Care Animal Hospital. He will be receiving daily fluids and bloodwork to assess his kidney function until Wednesday.
Thus far, both vets seemed very optimistic about his condition, stating that he is very lucid and alert, and has been exceptionally affectionate. Most cats who become extremely sick from this condition are lethargic and don't really want to be touched.
I was forced to take out a small loan to pay for his care. So far this has cost us approximately $2500 and about 50-60 new grey hairs for me. (By the time we're done, it will likely be closer to $2700)
Our family would deeply appreciate any help you could offer with Vincent's vet bills.
Letting Vincent pass at only six years old without a fight was not an option. He is a special part of our family and incredibly dear to my daughters.
