Hello dear family and friends,

We, the Shawcroft family, are facing a very challenging time right now. My husband, Gilbert, was admitted into the ICU on December 13th with a severe throat infection. Unfortunately, this infection was closing his airway, and he had to be put in an induced coma to prevent it from shutting completely. Doctors are still searching for the cause of the infection, and Gilbert will need to remain in the hospital, even after he wakes, to recover fully. During this time, he cannot work at our beloved barbershop, The Chill Spot, where he has always been committed to supporting our community.

As you can imagine, this situation is placing a financial strain on us with the mounting hospital bills and the temporary loss of Gilbert's income. To compound matters, we were just preparing to close on our new home, but our focus must stay with Gilbert’s recovery. We are reaching out to you, our community and friends, for support during this urgent time. We thank you all.

For those that know Gilbert, he is a loving husband, a loving father of 6, a generous human being, a lover of his community, a great friend, a guy would do anything he could to help others. He has a huge heart and is always trying to make those around him laugh and smile. He loves to go fishing, camping, “splorin’ in the mountains” and just has such a love for life!!

Crystal is also taking time off work to be by Gilbert’s side and be there for their kids. Now more than ever they need financial assistance. Please consider donating, any amount helps during this time.

🚨Day 3 update: They have lowered his oxygen but no changes in the swelling in his throat. He still has fever and they have sent more cultures because there was concerning sputum that came out of his lungs. They want to make sure he’s not getting pneumonia…

We are definitely in for a long stay.

Thank you all who have continued to share and donate for Gilbert. I know from the bottom of my heart that he will be so emotional when he gets to hear about all the love and support he is receiving. Our family is so grateful.

🚨 day 4 update: The CT scan came back. Not good news 😭 the swelling is worse and extubation is not an option today because the risk of his airway closing is too high.

If they can’t get this swelling to go down they will need to do a trachea tube on him so that they can at least wake him up because long term coma can be detrimental to his health and body.

I was really praying for better news today and this is really a hard blow 😭😭 the continued prayers and support mean so much. It’s very likely we will be spending Christmas in here. 😔

Day 6 update: G is still in a coma… There are not many changes today.  Gilbert is still pretty swollen so they decided today was not the day to try and  extubate him. We can’t risk his airway closing. I appreciate the continued prayers, donations and shares.
Good news is that they did lower his oxygen 🩷

Day 7 update:

Today things are not good. CT is still showing a lot of swelling and infection. He’s still carrying a fever and now he’s developing pneumonia 😔 they’re going to try another antibiotic to see if that will have any effect because the ones he’s on aren’t really doing anything. 😭
