Justice for Alonzo: Help Us Fight Back

On June 22, 2026, an 18-year-old Black father was shot multiple times by Detroit police during the Ford Fireworks celebration. He was cornered in a parking lot, and running from officers who had already detained someone else in his group. Officers shot him multiple times including, once in the back, once through the back of the shoulder, and once through the buttocks.

He was transported to a Detroit hospital—not by EMS, but by an officer. Hospital staff called him a "prisoner." He was handcuffed to his bed under armed police supervision for six days, despite having been charged with no crime. His mother was denied access for five days. He received no phone call. No lawyer.

On Saturday evening, he was finally released from police custody—but not before the state came for him again. Alonzo is now facing serious charges.

Let's be clear: the weapon they claim he had did not appear until after the shooting.

This is not justice. This is a cover-up. This is a system that shoots a young Black man in the back, handcuffs him to a hospital bed, denies him due process, and then charges him to make the violence look justified.

Alonzo is 18 years old. He has a seven-month-old daughter. He has younger siblings who look up to him. He has no criminal record. His first interaction with police was a violent one—and now the state is trying to make him the criminal.

We are raising $10,000 to support:

  • Legal fees – securing experienced legal representation to fight these charges and hold DPD accountable.
  • Family support – helping his mother cover transportation, lost wages, and basic needs while she fights for her son.
  • Community advocacy – sustaining the organizing work to demand body cam footage, independent investigation, and systemic change.

No family should have to fight alone. No young Black father should be shot in the back and then charged for surviving.

Justice for Alonzo is justice for all of us.
