In Support of Tenekia
Tenekia had been preparing to begin another semester of her online degree program the following Monday. Instead, her plans for school, work, and everyday life were suddenly interrupted as she began the difficult work of recovery. Her doctors have prescribed physical, occupational, and speech therapy. At this time, she is not medically able to return to work.
While her job is protected during her medical leave, that protection does not replace her income. Tenekia did not have short-term disability coverage, which means the bills have continued even though her paycheck has not. She has also pursued available community assistance programs, but unfortunately has not been able to qualify for the financial help she needs.
Right now, she is facing more than $3,500 in past-due rent and approximately $700 in utilities, before accounting for food, transportation to medical appointments and therapy, and the regular living expenses that will continue throughout her recovery.
Our goal is $10,000—not because we expect it to solve everything, but because we want to give Tenekia what every person recovering from a major medical event deserves: time to heal without having to choose between recovery and basic necessities.
If you are able to give, any amount will help provide stability while Tenekia works to regain her strength and independence. If giving financially isn’t possible, sharing this registry with others is equally appreciated.
We are grateful for every donation, every share, every prayer, and every person standing beside Tenekia during this season.
Recovery takes time. Bills don’t.
Let’s give Tenekia room to recover.
