Standing in Faith for Eva
March 29, 2024 was the day everything changed for Sarah’s family. Ten-year-old Eva was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, beginning in her pelvis and spreading to her rib, femurs, and head. After 14 rounds of chemotherapy and 40 proton treatments, she was declared cancer free—a miracle the family fully believed God had provided. Eva was baptized that summer, celebrating what they hoped was the end of this chapter.
But in September, a year after completing treatment, a small bump appeared on Eva’s face. After appointments, biopsies, and scans, the unthinkable became real: her Ewing Sarcoma had returned. This time, the tumor is localized but growing quickly, affecting her vision in one eye.
Through all of this, Eva remains who she has always been: a seventh grader, a ballet dancer, a social butterfly, and a girl whose faith is deep and steady. Her greatest fear was missing more school, so her care team and family worked with the school so she can attend in person when possible while undergoing treatment.
She is now receiving VIT chemotherapy, including an infusion day plus four days of oral treatment every 21 days. Her team will evaluate after two rounds to determine whether she can move forward with radiation. Because of the tumor’s location, surgery is not currently an option.
This season is heavy for the whole family. Sarah is a teacher reaching the end of her available leave and will also be undergoing a full hysterectomy on December 10th, which falls on one of Eva’s chemo days. Will is taking on extra reffing jobs. Their older son, James—a freshman—is spending a lot of time on his own during long treatment days. And with the hospital 2.5 hours away, even the logistics of care feel overwhelming. One chemotherapy medication is already confirmed as not covered under their insurance, and more unexpected costs are likely.
Still, this family is holding on to hope. Their faith is their anchor, and they deeply believe in the power of community—and prayer.
So many friends, church members, and loved ones have asked how they can help. Because of that outpouring, the family has agreed—hesitantly but gratefully—to open this SupportNow page so people can support them in whatever way feels right.
The most important need is prayer. Through the Lend A Hand feature, you can commit to praying for Eva, Sarah, Will, and James. This is what matters most to them, and they believe that being covered in prayer will strengthen their family as they walk through each treatment, each scan, and each decision.
You can also use the Send a Meal feature to choose a day to bring a homemade meal. This will give them relief on long chemo days, during travel, or while Sarah is recovering from surgery.
If you feel led to give financially, your support will help with lost wages, co-pays and uncovered medications, fuel and travel for treatment, and ongoing medical needs. There is no expectation to give—this page simply provides a place for those who have asked how to help.
They will also be posting updates here so everyone who loves them can stay informed, pray specifically, and walk alongside their family without Sarah needing to manage multiple conversations.
This is a beautiful family—fun, close, hopeful, and still believing in God’s miracles. They have fought hard once, and they are ready to fight again. Eva dreams of returning to ballet, school archery, 4H, and cheer next fall.
Thank you for standing with them, praying over them, and helping lighten the weight of this journey.
