In Support of Help Two Black Women Attend AfroTech2026
Hi everyone!
We are Rujeko and Faith, two Black women and international students pursuing our dreams of building successful careers in technology. Rujeko is studying Computer Science at the University of California, Davis, while Faith is studying Computer Science with a minor in Entrepreneurship at the University of the Ozarks. As aspiring Black women in tech, we are passionate about learning, growing, and creating opportunities for ourselves in an industry where representation and meaningful connections matter.
We are raising $2,000 to attend AfroTech 2026 in Houston, Texas, from November 2โ6. For us, AfroTech is more than just a conference. It is a chance to connect with leading technology companies, meet recruiters, learn from industry professionals, and explore internship and career opportunities that could shape our futures. We believe that being in spaces like this, surrounded by people who inspire us and share our ambitions, can open doors that might otherwise be difficult to access.
As international students, breaking into the tech industry comes with challenges. We are both hardworking, ambitious, and constantly looking for opportunities to grow. However, financial limitations sometimes make it difficult to access these opportunities. We previously received scholarships to attend the Grace Hopper Celebration, another major technology conference. Unfortunately, our opportunity to attend fell through due to insufficient funding. Although this was disappointing, we remain determined to keep pursuing our goals.
We both work while attending school, but most of our earnings go toward essential living expenses and bills. Covering the costs of transportation, accommodation, and food for this conference is currently beyond what we can afford. We are not asking for an easy way to success. We are simply asking for support to access an opportunity that could bring us closer to our dreams.
