In Support of Michelle Allen
I am a survivor of domestic violence not once, but twice. The first time was in 2022, when my then husband tried to take my life. Surviving that was something I fought hard to recover from, both physically and emotionally. I was determined to rebuild.
Then, more recently, I found myself in another abusive situation with someone I had known for over 20 years. This time, the abuse was not just emotional and mental, but also financial and eventually physical. When it reached that point, I made the decision to leave immediately for my own safety. Because of the financial control in that relationship, I left with almost nothing.
At the same time, my health has been steadily declining. I am dealing with degenerative issues in my back, arthritis, and heel spurs that make it extremely painful to stand or sit for long periods. On top of that, I manage bipolar disorder, anxiety, and PTSD, which make high stress environments difficult to handle.
This has put me in a very difficult position when it comes to work. Jobs I am physically able to do often require qualifications I do not yet have on paper. Jobs I am qualified for physically demand long hours on my feet, which I can no longer sustain.
Right now, I rely on gig work because it allows me to listen to my body and work when I am able. Unfortunately, my vehicle, which is my only way to earn income, recently broke down for two weeks. During that time, I had no way to work, and I fell behind on essential expenses.
Even now, my van is still not reliable. It is misfiring and in need of maintenance like a tune up and oil change, and I am worried it may break down again at any time.
I have applied for disability, but as many people know, that process takes a long time. My long term goal is to go back to school so I can qualify for stable, less physically demanding work. But right now, I am just trying to get through each day and keep a roof over my head.
I am asking for help to cover basic living expenses, keep my vehicle running so I can continue working, and give me a chance to stabilize while I work toward a better future.
If you are able to donate, share, or even just read my story, it truly means more than I can put into words. Every bit of support helps me move one step closer to safety, stability, and independence.
Thank you for taking the time to hear me.
