Mateo’s Legacy in Motion: A New Beginning in Maryland
If
you know Mateo, you know he has a way of touching every heart he meets. After a
traumatic birth, he was diagnosed with Severe HIE,
and later cerebral palsy, dystonia, dysphagia,
and global developmental delays. His journey has been marked by
challenges no child should ever have to face — yet he continues to show strength,
connection, and resilience every single day.
Right now,
Mateo needs better healthcare support than what’s available where
he lives. His parents have made an incredibly brave and selfless decision: to move
their family to Maryland so they can be close to Johns
Hopkins Hospital and give Mateo every opportunity for the comprehensive
care he deserves. It’s a huge commitment — not an easy one — but when it comes to
their son’s quality of life, they are all in.
After a lot
of consideration (and finally saying yes), they’ve created this SupportNow
page. And now, as a community, we want to rally around them. Our
goal is to help this family relocate, settle in, and make sure Mateo has what he
needs to thrive in his new home.
All proceeds
will go toward the cost of transportation and the move
itself.
Anything raised above and beyond will help cover home modifications — and there are many. Maryland’s older homes often require extensive updates to be safe and accessible for Mateo, and the remodel alone has been estimated at around $100,000. This is no easy feat for any family, and families of children with disabilities often have to consider things that others never have to think about — from accessibility, to safety, to the everyday logistics of caregiving inside their own home.
