Mateo’s Legacy in Motion to Maryland
This week we checked something special off our list, Mateo rode a train for the very first time here in Florida.
And let us tell you… it was pure joy.
The sounds. The movement. The wide-eyed excitement. The “what is happening and I LOVE IT” energy. For many families, hopping on a train might feel ordinary. For us, experiences like this take planning, timing, accessibility considerations, and a little courage. We don’t get to do spontaneous outings very often, so when we do, it feels big.
And this one? It was worth it.
Moments like this matter. They build confidence. They expose Mateo to new environments. They strengthen sensory processing, balance, and regulation. They remind us that inclusion and access open doors to joy, not just appointments.
At the same time, our Maryland home search continues. We’ve toured and reviewed homes with step-down living rooms (the nemesis of wheel-based mobility 😅), narrow layouts, and others that are simply far beyond our price range. It’s a delicate balance between what we need, what exists, and what we can realistically afford.
We are still hopeful. Still searching. Still believing the right home is out there.
Because being in Maryland would mean more access, to specialized care, to strong disability advocacy culture, to world-class healthcare systems connected to Johns Hopkins and other pediatric institutions. It means more opportunities for progress. More frequent milestones. More “firsts” like this train ride.
Every single donation helps move us closer to that reality. It helps bridge the gap between our current situation and a future where experiences like this, and healthcare wins, happen more often.
If you’ve donated, thank you. If you’re considering it, know that it truly makes a difference. And if you can’t donate, sharing our story helps us reach someone who might be able to.
From first crunches to first train rides, we’re building a life where Mateo doesn’t just get by… he gets to experience the world.
All aboard for the next chapter. 🚂💙
