Hello family and friends,

Our beloved Marlene Crowder has been going through a tough time. After contracting COVID-19 in 2020 which left her with severe and permanent damage to her lungs. Over time, that damage developed into Interstitial Lung Disease and Pulmonary Fibrosis which caused progressive scarring of her lungs and making it increasingly difficult for her to breathe. As her disease progressed, her oxygen needs continued to increase. Simple tasks such as walking across a room, getting dressed, or having a conversation became exhausting.

In 2025 and into 2026 her condition worsened significantly.Β  On June 29, 2026 Marlene had to be airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville TN where she underwent extensive testing and evaluation for a double lung transplant.Β  Marlene was officially approved and placed on the lung transplant waiting list on July 7, 2026. Just days later on July 10th she received the life-changing call that donor lungs had become available.Β  The next day July 11th , Marlene underwent a double lung transplant. The surgery was successful but her recovery has been anything but easy. Following surgery she faced weeks of intensive care, numerous procedures, physical therapy, occupational therapy, medication adjustments and close monitoring for complications.

Through it all, Marlene has continued to show incredible courage and resilience. Today, she is breathing with lungs she once only prayed for!Β  She is walking farther than she has in years, gaining strength each day.

While the transplant has given Marlene a second chance at life, the journey is far from over. She and her husband had to temporarily relocate to Nashville for ongoing medical care and monitoring. The financial burden of travel, housing, meals, medications and time away from home continues to add up. They will probably be there for 3 months before she will be able to return home to Hickory, KY.

Despite the challenges, Marlene remained strong in her faith and determination. She continued to fight for every breath, surrounded by the love and support of her husband, family, friends and Church community.

Anyone who knows Marlene knows her heart.Β  She has spent her life loving others, serving her family and trusting God through every season.Β  This fundraiser is an opportunity to come alongside Marlene and Brad as they navigate this new chapter of recovery and healing.

Most importantly, we thank God for every answered prayer, every milestone, every caregiver, every donor family and every person who has supported Marlene along this journey.Β  Your prayers, encouragement and generosity mean more than words can express.

If you would like to send Marlene a card or letter, she would absolutely love to hear from you!Β
