In Support of Krystal Lafferty

Krystal Lafferty
Hello family and friends,
I'm reaching out because I really need your support right now. I was in a terrible car accident that left me with a major leg injury. I had to have emergency surgery and now have a long journey ahead to get better. Right now, I can't walk, drive, or work, and I'm struggling with big medical bills and rent that's overdue. I'm a single mom, self-employed, and I don’t have insurance, so this situation is extra tough. My teenager is staying with his father at the moment, and I don't have much family nearby to lean on.

Help Me Recover From a Devastating Car Accident and Surgery

On 08/18/2026, my life changed in a matter of seconds.

I suffered a severe tibia and fibula fracture near the middle of my leg, with the bone breaking through the skin. My ankle was also shattered. I underwent emergency surgery that same day and now have a steel rod and two screws in my leg. I spent a week in the hospital before I was finally able to return home.

I am incredibly grateful to have survived the accident, but the road to recovery is going to be long.

I have been told that I cannot put weight on my injured ankle for approximately three months, and my doctors estimate that I may not be fully recovered for around six months. They have recommended physical therapy two to three times a week, but without health insurance and with no income coming in, and no transportation, I simply cannot afford the therapy and support that I need right now.

I am self-employed and a single mother, so this accident has affected far more than just my ability to work. My vehicle was totaled, I have no savings to fall back on, and I am currently unable to work and earn an income. I also have little to no immediate family living in my home or nearby who can provide regular, day-to-day assistance.

As a result, I am facing this recovery largely on my own. Simple things that would normally be manageable—getting to appointments, picking up medications, preparing meals, getting groceries, and keeping up with everyday necessities—have become much more difficult while I am unable to put weight on my leg or drive.

My rent is already past due, and I am doing everything I can to keep my housing secure while I recover.

Because I did not have health insurance, I have had to rely on charity assistance through the hospital to obtain some of the medications and medical equipment I need, including a walker and wheelchair. I am incredibly grateful for that assistance, but there are still substantial expenses ahead.

That means I am facing a long recovery without my vehicle, without the ability to drive, without the ability to work as I normally would, and with very limited family support nearby.

Where Your Help Will Go....

I have estimated my expenses for approximately six months of recovery at $29,234, and I am setting my fundraising goal at $31,000 to allow for fundraising and payment-processing fees as well as unexpected expenses that may arise during my recovery.

My current estimated expenses are:

  • Hospital bill already incurred
  • Additional medical expenses
  • Physical therapy
  • Medications
  • Rent for six months
  • Groceries, utilities, and basic living expenses for 6 months
  • Rideshare Transportation while I am unable to drive

My first priority will be keeping a roof over my head, obtaining the medications and medical care I need, and being able to attend physical therapy so that I can give my leg the best chance of recovering properly. Any remaining funds will go toward the medical debt created by this accident.

Why I'm Asking for Help.....

I never expected to find myself in a position where I needed to ask other people for financial help.
I have always worked to provide for myself and my child, but being self-employed means that when I cannot work, there isn't a paycheck waiting for me. I also did not have health insurance when this accident happened, leaving me responsible for expenses that I simply don't have the savings to cover.

Right now, I am trying to focus on healing while also worrying about rent, medical care, transportation, and how to eventually bring some stability back to our lives.

This also made me realize just how little immediate support I have available to help me navigate the physical and financial challenges of this recovery.

I am asking for help because, right now, I cannot do this alone.

If you are able to donate, any amount will make a difference. If you aren't in a position to donate, sharing this fundraiser with your friends, family, coworkers, or social media network would mean just as much to me.

I am doing everything I can to recover, take care of my responsibilities, and eventually return to work and rebuild my life. I plan to search for work from home positions once I am more physically able, assuming I am also able to retain my housing, internet and phone connect during this difficult time.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Thank you for any donation, share, message, encouragement, or kindness you are able to give.

I am incredibly grateful for every bit of support as I work through the months ahead.
