The good news is that my leg looks ready for Halloween, no costume make up needed.
(its okay to laugh)
This was my first time seeing the leg fully since the accident. I wont even try to be tough, I cried. They removed the splint and bandages to inspect the stitched areas. Everything looks.... good. Just a little spooky.
They removed the staples and stitches, took additional xrays and discussed a physical therapy referral. A few stubborn stitches weren't ready to come out so I have to return next week. Unfortunately this office was unable to provide me a medical walking boot to leave with and instead suggested that I purchase one on Amazon or from a local retailer to obtain one the fastest or seek assistance through the MAP program to try to obtain one. Since I do not have the means to get a walking boot at the moment, I am spending the weekend with my leg up and gently working to move my toes and joints as instructed while I explore my options and see if anyone has one to donate. You can see the steel rod and screws via the xray - looks like I wont be passing through metal detectors smoothly anymore.
Ill be researching which physical therapists can accept my MAP card to hopefully find a place that I can work with.
MAP and MAP Basic are health coverage programs for Travis County residents with low income. They give members access to the health services they need. They are not health insurance programs, and they are not federally funded. So this means I have some options, but they are severely limited.
