Jonah is a joyful, light-filled little boy who has a way of bringing smiles to everyone around him. His sweet spirit, contagious smile, and determination remind his family every day that progress isn't measured by how fast someone moves, but by every hard-earned step forward.
At just 2½ years old, Jonah has already overcome more than most of us can imagine. He has been diagnosed with KMT2E (O'Donnell-Luria-Rodan Syndrome), an ultra-rare genetic disorder, along with Level 3 nonverbal autism, global developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, and hypotonia. Today, Jonah is not yet walking or talking, and his family still doesn't know what his future abilities may look like. But they do know one thing: they want to give him every opportunity to reach his fullest potential.
Jonah spends his days in speech, physical, and occupational therapy. While these therapies are essential, his family isn't seeing the progress he needs to reach the next milestones. That's why they're pursuing intensive therapy.
Intensive therapy provides concentrated, goal-focused treatment that often helps children make meaningful breakthroughs when traditional weekly therapy has led to slower progress. For many families, intensives become the launching pad that helps children gain strength, improve mobility, and develop new skills that continue long after the program ends. Right now, while Jonah's brain is rapidly developing and his body is still growing, this is an especially important window to invest in his future.
Each intensive, including travel, costs $5,000 to $7,000 per week. Jonah's family hopes to complete two to three rounds over the next year, giving him every opportunity to gain strength, improve mobility, and prayerfully take independent steps. Along with his therapies they are also trying to secure a pediatric walker for him to help give him some independence. Their goal is for Jonah is to have at least a portion of his toddler years walking and exploring his world.
Jonah's mom has become his full-time caregiver while also caring for his two sisters. She now works occasional weekends, while Jonah's dad works tirelessly to support their family and make it possible for her to stay home. They continue to do everything they can, but the additional cost of intensive therapy is simply more than they can carry alone.
