As many of you know, Hawk has dealt with gross motor and speech delays since he was born. It has been a rollercoaster ever since - filled with fear and uncertainty, hope and successes. He has hit so many milestones, but still has so far to go and at 4 years old, doctors still don’t have a diagnosis and reasoning behind his setbacks. At times having no answers is exhausting, scary, and debilitating, but for the most part, Billy and I view this as the opposite. If we don’t know why he has these challenges AND he keeps improving, then the sky’s the limit! This mindset has given us the motivation to constantly seek out the best experts, research, and facilities.
In the past 8 months, Hawk has really hit a stride. These gains resulted from a mix of new therapists, doctors, and intensive therapies. We are so excited to be finding things that work for Hawk, especially with his vision - a key area that has been holding him back.
With great experts and facilities comes great expenses. Half of Hawk’s team is now not covered by insurance. We were also dealt a surprise blow by Hawk's previous insurance resulting in us paying out of pocket for the last 5 months of 2024.
Up to this point, Billy and I have worked hard and proudly been able to pay for Hawk’s needs, but with so many services not covered by insurance, Billy and I are now scraping by to avoid debt. While Hawk’s needs are expensive, these services are crucial at his age, because any gains he makes now significantly improve the chances of him having an independent life as an adult.
We do not take this ask lightly and appreciate any help we receive. Below is a breakdown of how the donations will help Hawk...
$4,000 - Developmental Vision Therapy - 12 day Intensive
$5,000 - Intensive Therapy in Iowa - Additional Week in February
$5,000 - At home Laser (same used in intensives to cut down travel and visits to Iowa)
$3,000 - Help with Dental costs (Palate Expanders)
$1,000 - Lab Services
$18,000 TOTAL
