Meet Elliot
Elliot is a remarkable eight-year-old whos smile lights up the whole world. Living with quadriplegic cerebral palsy, Elliot uses a wheelchair and faces multiple daily challenges — but that does not define him. He is curious, funny, smart, dedicated and brave. He attends French school here in Victoria, BC, and fills his days with books, music, horse-riding therapy, Vegemite toast, chips, the Fun Fables podcast, and a love for Justin Bieber. Elliot is deeply loved, and his joyful spirit makes him unforgettable.

Discovering Trexo Robotics - Yes, a ROBOT!
Recently, Elliot had the incredible opportunity to trial the Trexo robotic walking device — a wearable robotic “walking legs” system designed for children who otherwise couldn’t walk can experience walking. Imagine getting a chance to discover the world upright, with robot assistance and felt safe to look around. Elliot called it the "Robot-Walker". This trial was nothing short of magical: to see Elliot take steps, upright and supported, was a moment full of emotions; our very first time holding hands walking together.
What is Trexo?
- A robotic exoskeleton designed by a Canadian company for children with mobility challenges
- It promotes natural walking patterns, trunk control, and weight-bearing—key for bone strength, posture, cognition, and inclusion
- It adapts to a child’s growth and needs, helping with spasticity, muscle tone, balance, and more
Traditional walkers are heavy and difficult for Elliot to use (supportive walkers are heavy and cumbersome, with his spasticity and low tone, taking a few steps is all he can do, and the walker needs to be pushed by someone). With Trexo, he can move safely and independently — opening up a whole new world of possibilities. It’s also compact and mobile enough to be used at school, replacing his current walker and stander, and giving him more freedom both in and out of the classroom.
Why we’re asking for you to be Walking Together with us
The cost of the Trexo system is approximately CAD $46,000 (~USD $32,000*) including the supportive walker frame. Unfortunately, it’s not covered by healthcare or insurance, but we believe — with your help — we can make this happen. Elliot is small and the Trexo will grow with him for many years ahead. The Trexo would be an incredible tool to support stronger bones, muscles and over all body development while he is still growing.

These have been lifechanging for Elliot's development and we are convinced the hyperbaric chamber is one of the main reason Elliot is able to talk, and why he is so present and able to focus. Elliot est un enfant extraordinaire de huit ans qui charme tous ceux qu'il rencontre; son sourire illumine le monde entier. Atteint d'une paralysie cérébrale quadriplégique, Elliot est en fauteuil roulant et doit relever des défis quotidiens associés à son handicap. Mais il est curieux, drôle, intelligent, dévoué et courageux. Il fréquente l'école française ici à Victoria, en Colombie-Britannique, au Canada. Il est aimé et aime les livres, la musique, l'équithérapie, les chips, les toasts au Vegemite, le podcast Fun Fables, la nourriture, Justin Bieber et tant d'autres choses qui le rendent unique et précieux.
Elliot mérite toutes les chances d'atteindre son plein potentiel et nous aimerions que vous nous souteniez en « marchant ensemble » avec nous, afin de rendre son monde un peu plus amusant, un peu plus accessible, un peu plus facile.
Decouverte du Trexo Robotics - Oui, un ROBOT!
Récemment, Elliot a eu l'incroyable opportunité d'essayer le Trexo, un système de « jambes robotisées » portables conçu pour permettre aux enfants qui ne peuvent pas marcher de faire l'expérience de la marche. Imaginez avoir la chance de découvrir le monde debout, avec l'aide d'un robot, et de vous sentir en sécurité pour regarder autour de vous. Elliot l'a appelé le «robot-déambulateur». Cet essai a été tout simplement magique : voir Elliot faire ses premiers pas, debout et soutenu, a été un moment riche en émotions ; c'était la toute première fois que nous marchions main dans la main.
Qu'est-ce que Trexo ?
- Il s'agit d'un exosquelette robotisé pour enfants, conçu par une entreprise canadienne.
- Il favorise une démarche naturelle, le contrôle du tronc et la mise en charge, éléments essentiels au développement physique pour la solidité osseuse, la posture, la cognition, l'inclusion, etc.
- Il est ajustable en taille et en fonction des besoins, et vise à aider à soulager la spasticité, le tonus musculaire, la posture, l'équilibre, etc.
Sans le soutien robotique offert par Trexo, il est très difficile pour Elliot de marcher avec un déambulateur (les déambulateurs de soutien sont lourds et encombrants, et compte tenu de sa spasticité et de son faible tonus musculaire, il ne peut faire que quelques pas et le déambulateur doit être poussé par quelqu'un).
Pourquoi nous vous demandons de marcher avec nous
Le coût de cet appareil extraordinaire? Environ 46 000 dollars canadiens (soit environ 32 000 dollars américains*), comprenant le déambulateur. Tout bien considéré, nous pouvons absolument réunir cette somme pour qu'Elliot devienne M. Robot. Et il est logique de le faire maintenant, sachant que cet appareil grandira avec lui pendant de nombreuses années, car il est encore petit. Il se situe dans la fourchette inférieure de la taille des appareils que nous commanderions. Mais évidemment, le Trexo, ou comme Elliot l'a rebaptisé, le «robot-déambulateur», n'est pas pris en charge par le système de santé ou les assurances privées. Je sollicite l'aide de notre réseau et du vôtre. Parallèlement, je vais rédiger des demandes de subvention et contacter les médias, restez à l'écoute pour les mises à jour.

^ Il y a quelques années, nous avons mené une campagne GoFundMe très réussie qui a permis de financer une chambre hyperbare, des thérapies précoces et un tricycle adapté qu'il utilise chaque jour. Ces traitements ont changé la vie d'Elliot et je suis convaincue que la chambre hyperbare est l'une des principales raisons pour lesquelles Elliot est capable de parler, qu'il est si allumé et qu'il arrive a focuser. Elle a également contribué à renforcer son système immunitaire. Merci à tous pour votre contribution. Je change de plateforme pour SupportNow, car celle-ci est un peu plus transparente quant à la répartition des fonds entre Elliot et la plateforme.
