Meet Dorothy

At just 4 months old, Dorothy was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Now, at 3 years old, her family has also learned she has a rare genetic condition called Schaaf-Yang syndrome — and she is believed to be 1 of only 300 individuals in the whole world with this diagnosis.

Her moms, Sarah and Cat, are doing everything they can to give Dorothy every opportunity to grow, learn, and reach her fullest potential.

Recently, Dorothy had the chance to trial the Trexo robotic walking legs — and it was nothing short of incredible.

What Can a Trexo Do?

The Trexo is a robotic gait trainer that allows children with mobility challenges to practice repetitive, supported walking in a safe and consistent way.

For Dorothy’s physical health, this means:

  • Improved strength and muscle development

  • Better joint alignment and bone density

  • Enhanced circulation and digestion

  • Hip health support

  • Reduced risk of contractures

  • Opportunities for neuroplasticity through repetitive movement

Walking impacts the entire body — not just mobility.

For Dorothy’s social and emotional wellness, walking upright means:

  • Seeing the world eye-to-eye with peers

  • Greater independence and exploration

  • Building confidence

  • Participating more fully in play

  • Experiencing the joy of movement in a new way

There is something powerful about standing tall. About moving toward your friends instead of being carried. About feeling your own feet take steps.

How Do You Put a Price on Walking?

The Trexo system costs $40,000 CAD, which is approximately $29,600 USD.

It is not covered by insurance.

For most families, this is simply out of reach — even when the benefits are life-changing.

How You Can Help

Sarah and Cat are committed to giving Dorothy every opportunity to grow stronger, more independent, and more confident in her body.

Your support — whether through a donation or sharing this page — helps bring Dorothy closer to daily access to walking in her own home.

Because every child deserves the chance to stand tall.
