Hello family and friends! Baby Covey has had a tough start in life.
Born with a hole in his heart (complete AVSD), a “common cold” turned really bad really fast. Covey was in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) from mid-November through the end of March, going through respiratory failure, ECMO, getting a tracheostomy and G-tube (feeding tube) to help him grow and get strong enough for his heart repair.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to gain much weight because his heart was simply working way too hard and we had to move forward with open heart surgery under less than ideal circumstances.
Thankfully, surgery went well, but the road to recovery and getting him home will be long. Covey is currently in a pediatric rehabilitation hospital because his health insurance does not cover at-home nursing care.
Many large expenses will be necessary to accommodate his care:

- equipment - ventilator, feeding, monitors.
- supplies for the above equipment as well as trach, g-tube, and ostomy
- on-going therapies: physical, occupational, speech, larger apartment (the family is currently in a very small NYC apartment) and Covey will need his own space to house his crib and all his equipment along with a small resting spot for his nurse.
- rental of moving truck and packing supplies.
- additional vehicle to transport Covey and his equipment to physician and therapy appointments. They currently own a small commuter car that they juggle between the two of them.
- stroller/wagon to transport Covey and his equipment short distances.
Insurance will partially cover equipment, supplies, nursing care, and therapies, but the majority of the expenses Austyn & Steven will need to cover themselves. We would love to help Austyn & Steven give Covey the best start in life as possible. Any and all support is SO greatly appreciated.
