Connor is the sweetest boy and lives with severe hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) meaning severe brain damage, mixed spastic-dyskinetic quadriplegic cerebral palsy, cortical visual impairment (CVI), sleep apnea, laryngomalacia, and mild optic nerve damage. He also depends on a G-tube for nutrition and is at high risk for seizures.
Although Connor is three years old, developmentally, he still feels like a five-month-old baby. He has to fight harder than most children just to breathe, reach for something, hold his head up, or see and engage with the world around him. Even a common cold can mean a trip to the emergency room. Recently, what was supposed to be a one-night hospital stay for a minor surgery to remove his tonsils turned into a weeklong stay in the ICU.
We have reached the limits of the options currently available to Connor, which largely focus on managing his symptoms with liquid medications. As his parent, I have to keep searching for possibilities that could help improve his quality of life.
I have been researching Muse cell treatments for some time, following other families’ journeys and speaking with parents whose children have undergone treatment. Hearing their experiences and seeing the progress some children have made has given me hope that there may be possibilities for Connor, too. Although I cannot guarantee he will have the same results, I want to give him the opportunity to explore what may be possible.
We hope to take Connor to Mexico for Muse cell treatments. The medical facility also includes an intensive two-week program that combines different therapies, including options that are not available to us in our home state. This would give Connor access to additional therapies and support beyond what he currently receives.
Unfortunately, these treatments and programs come with significant expenses and are not covered by our insurance. We cannot do this alone, and that is why we are reaching out for help.
Every donation, share, and kind word brings us one step closer to exploring these opportunities for Connor. Your support means more than helping us work toward treatment; it means helping us continue to advocate for our son and give him every chance to grow, learn, connect, and experience more of the world around him.
Connor deserves every opportunity possible. We will keep fighting for him, keep searching for answers, and keep holding on to hope.
