In Support of Carlo Barone
Hello everyone, I'm Jack Barone, the twin brother of Carlo.
Last fall, Carlo noticed an unusual lump starting to protrude on the left side of his chest. On May 18, he underwent an MRI to examine the lump and received a life-changing phone call the same day. Doctors told my 24-year old brother that they believed the lump to be cancerous and that they found two others in his chest.
Carlo would then undergo two biopsies that further confirmed the doctor's suspicions. On June 22, he was officially diagnosed with Stage IV Hogdkin's Lymphoma after doctors found that the cancer had moved into his bone marrow. The medical team at Northwestern quickly met with our family and determined that he would need to start chemotherapy immediately.
On July 13, Carlo started the long journey towards a cancer-free life with his first chemotherapy treatment. On July 28, the day after his second infusion, he underwent a fourth procedure to remove his port and to place a new one in due to healing complications.
Through it all, Carlo has remained in good spirits, working hard each day to get better. But because of his limited role at work, medical bills, and the cost of traveling, he needs our help.
