In Support of Beth Kerper's bone marrow transplant

Beth Kerper's bone marrow transplant
Beth has been fighting essential thrombocytosis for many years. Recently, this disorder started morphing and changing. She has been requiring multiple transfusions to maintain healthy blood levels, and after several bone marrow biopsies, her doctors officially changed her diagnosis to MDS / Mylofibrosis, with signs pointing toward an approaching transition to AML (Leukemia). A bone marrow transplant is the only true treatment to overcome this disease.
Thankfully, two perfect matches were found through the bone marrow registry, and we are set up to perform this transplant on Wednesday, October 21st.
Beth will be admitted to Hershey Medical Center on Wednesday, Oct 14th to start the chemo and radiation that are necessary before the transplant takes place. She will then remain in the hospital for approximately 35 more days to get those donated cells working and build her immune system back up. During that time, her family will be traveling back and forth extensively to be by her side as much as possible, while still juggling work, children, and caring for Beth's home and pets while she is getting well again. If anyone feels inclined to assist in any way, it will be graciously appreciated. Whether through a monetary donation to help with fuel and travel, or meals to help ease the burden of keeping the family taken care of at home, or even something as simple as a quick note of encouragement... anything you wish to share will be greatly appreciated. Knowing her friends and family are supporting her is so many ways will be instrumental in helping her remain positive and strong during this difficult procedure.
Many of our friends and family have asked that I keep them up to date on how Beth is doing through all of this, as well as asking what they can do to help.
This platform provides the ability to post and share updates with everyone that wishes to follow her journey. I will be posting updates as often as I am able, and will utilize the tools on this site to coordinate voluteers and assistance whenever we have a need come up.
Some examples:
Before I bring Beth home, I will be needing to do a full cleaning of her home to ensure it is a healthy and clean environment for her to continue to heal in. I'm not sure of the cost for a professional service, but that will determine if I hire someone, or if I might request some volunteers to help make it a quicker task with many hands involved.
Outdoor fall cleanup of her property is another area I could use volunteers when the time comes.

Please follow this page for updates, as I plan to post news and progress as often as I can to keep everyone informed.

Thank you so much for caring about Beth and supporting her in this fight. I can't wait to share her courageous story with you as it unfolds!

Sending you strength, strength and strength… your daughter Cheryl explaining each day is a blessing… you can do this. You may swear about parts of it but your fellow nurses and family sound like they are giving good guidance … (Those darn Phillies)
