Beth Kerper's bone marrow transplant
So today was the big day! The nurses gathered around mom and started getting her ready around 11am. The donated cells arrived in the room by 11:15. By 11:30, 5 million donated cells were being placed into her body. The room was a bustle of activity, as everyone watched and monitored for any signs of complication. Mom did have some minor signs of reaction, which were dealt with swiftly, and after a few hours, she was resting comfortably. After all of the stress, tests, visits, and anxiety over what to do, what not to do... it all felt a little anticlimactic to be honest. Years of wondering what the best course of action should be, and suddenly it's done. Now the biggest part left to do is to pray for her body to stay strong as it continues to lose all her unhealthy cells and makes room for these new donated cells to take root and start growing and producing healthy blood on their own. They expect it to be 10-14 days before we see signs of her counts rebounding from the new cells growing. Every single prayer through that time is appreciated! She is bound to have some rough days ahead, but knowing everyone is praying for her means so much
Thank you!
