Beth Kerper's bone marrow transplant
Today is 5 days since mom's transplant. Yesterday and the day before were 2 more days of rough chemo, to finish prepping her body for the donated cells to find their homes and start growing. Those were some rough days, including a lot of extra monitoring, meds, and hourly testing. Her blood counts are just about at their lowest point now, so her body is working so hard to just function, let alone respond to everything being asked of it. She did start running a fever again Saturday evening. Huge kudos to her awesome nurse, who knew just from watching her monitors, that something was off. She walked in, took her temp, saw it elevated, and within 47 minutes the antibiotics had been ordered, received, and were running in the IV. The medical team there seriously does not mess around!
(To add insult to injury, mom tried to move her bedside table and tweaked her back! Thankfully they are giving her what they can to keep her comfortable, but seriously not what she needed right now!)
The next 5-7 days are going to be a little rough, as she tries to keep her strength up while we wait for signs that the donated cells are starting to grow. I am looking forward to being able to share that long-awaited news. Until we reach that point, please continue to keep her in your prayers. Staying positive when every single cell in your body hurts has to feel nearly impossible. She couldn't possibly do it without her unwavering faith.
And even though she isn't up to talking, or even texting right now, she is absolutely thankful to everyone who is praying and sending encouragement. Thank you all, so very much!
