Brittany is my dear friend, and her brother James was one of the closest friends I’ve ever had. She’s nearly 200 days sober — the longest period of sobriety she’s had in her adult life. After spending years incarcerated at Coffee Creek Correctional Institution, Brittany. took accountability, completed her time, and walked out determined to build a different life. Since her release, she’s stayed clean and sober, secured employment, and achieved something monumental: she qualified for and moved into her first apartment ever. Her rent represents safety, stability, and independence she’s never had before.
At her first job after release, Brittany didn’t just show up — she went above and beyond, working hard and proving herself reliable and committed. When she respectfully asked for a small raise, she was abruptly terminated instead of being given a chance. She immediately found another job at a well-known local hotel, a position she loved and was proud of. Unfortunately, someone she trusted went behind her back, contacted management, spoke negatively about her, and disclosed her criminal history. Her charges are more than seven years old, unrelated to the job, and she has served all of her time. Because of that disclosure, she lost her employment.
Brittany has received a 10-day notice to pay or vacate her apartment. She is at immediate risk of losing her housing.
At the same time, Brittany is carrying an enormous personal load — rebuilding relationships with her children and family, learning how to live independently after years of incarceration, grieving the loss of her younger brother, and coping with the reality that her closest remaining sibling is currently incarcerated. This fundraiser is meant to cover rent and basic essentials so she can keep her housing while securing new employment. She didn’t ask for help — I did. Because sometimes doing everything right still isn’t enough, and no one should lose their home while fighting this hard to rebuild their life. If you believe in hope, a second chance, perseverance and the battle against addiction and recidivism, please consider donating and/or sharing. Every little bit of attention to her situation will help. Let’s keep her housed. Let’s protect what she’s working so hard to build. Thank you for your time!
