Help Us Give Amanda the Gift of Family
If you've ever met Amanda, you know she has a gift for making people laugh—even on the hardest days. She's the kind of person who finds humor in the chaos, shows up for others without hesitation, and somehow manages to put everyone else at ease, even while fighting the biggest battle of her life.
Today, it's our turn to show up for her. Amanda is courageously fighting terminal Stage IV metastatic breast cancer. While this journey has brought more doctor's appointments, treatments, and difficult days than anyone should ever have to face, it has also made one thing abundantly clear: home isn't just a place—it's the people who love you.
Her greatest wish is to spend this precious time surrounded by family.
This November, we are hoping to relocate Amanda, her husband Ryan, and their son Jax from Phoenix, Arizona, back to Lubbock, Texas, where an entire village of family is waiting with open arms, home-cooked meals, extra hugs, and probably more unsolicited advice than anyone asked for. (That's family, after all.)
The trip itself is no small feat. Phoenix to Lubbock is more than 730 miles—over 11 hours on the road. For most of us, that's a long drive. For someone living with advanced metastatic cancer, it's an enormous physical challenge.
Amanda simply can't make the journey in a packed moving truck. She'll need to travel separately so she can stop often to rest, stretch, and take care of herself. Ryan will be behind the wheel of the moving truck with Jax, while Amanda follows at a pace her body allows.
Like so many families facing serious illness, they're doing everything they can to keep costs down. They'll be packing every single box themselves (yes—even the ones labeled "I'll deal with this later"), but the financial reality of moving across state lines while navigating a terminal diagnosis is overwhelming.
We're hoping to raise $6,000 to help cover the essentials:
- One-way U-Haul truck rental and required moving fees (generously covered by family)
- Packing supplies, tape, storage containers, and the “Oh we need THAT too!?"
- Fuel for both the moving truck and Amanda's vehicle
- Hotel accommodations and meals so Amanda has ample energy and can safely rest during the trip
- The first month's rent, security deposit and deposits for utilities all for their new home in Lubbock
This move is about so much more than changing addresses. It's about making sure Amanda doesn't have to face her hardest days without family nearby. It's about giving Ryan the support every caregiver deserves—the kind where someone says, "I've got dinner tonight," or "Go take a nap. I've got this." It's about giving Jax the comfort of being surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and people who love him fiercely. And it's about giving Amanda what she wants most: the chance to be home.
Cancer has already taken so much. It has stolen time, energy, plans, and certainty. But it doesn't get to take away the love of family—or the incredible kindness of a community willing to step in and help. If you're able, please consider donating. Whether it's $5, $50, or simply sharing this fundraiser, every act of generosity helps carry this family one mile closer to home.
And if you know Amanda, you already know she'll probably insist she's "fine" and tell everyone not to fuss over her. That's exactly why we're asking on her behalf. Let's fuss anyway. Thank you for your prayers, your encouragement, your generosity, and for helping bring Amanda home, where she can be surrounded by the people who love her most.
From their family to yours—thank you for making this journey a little lighter and a whole lot more hopeful.
