When a family who serves so faithfully has a need, a community can rise together.
I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside Jenna and her family for more than ten years. I’ve witnessed heartbreak, resilience, fierce determination, and more love than most people see in a lifetime.
James is a near-drowning survivor who is thriving today. He is strong. He is joyful. He is full of personality and perseverance.
His progress did not happen by accident. It happened because Skylar and Jenna have committed their lives to giving him every opportunity to be healthy, capable, and as independent and accessible as possible.
But here’s what many people don’t see.
The majority of what James needs is not covered by insurance.
The therapies.
The adaptive equipment.
The ongoing supports.
The specialized care.
Much of it falls on the family.
Studies show that raising a medically complex child can cost between $1.4 to $2.4 million by age 18 — nearly ten times the cost of raising a neurotypical child. And that doesn’t include lost work hours, emotional strain, or the daily logistics that most families never have to consider.
Skylar and Jenna make sacrifices again and again because they believe in their son’s future. They always choose what is best for him — even when it costs them.
Now they are facing a need that so many families in this space understand: a reliable wheelchair-accessible van.
These vehicles are not standard cars. They are specially modified, highly customized, and incredibly expensive. But they are also essential.
A dependable wheelchair-accessible van means:
• James can safely enter and exit with dignity
• The entire family can ride together
• They don’t have to coordinate multiple vehicles just to get to one place
• Transportation is reliable and secure
• Daily life becomes smoother and less stressful
For many families without accessible transportation, getting somewhere together requires separate cars, complicated transfers, or constant worry about equipment failing. That is not something we want for the Edwards family.
And if you know them, you know this: they are always the ones giving.
Jenna has advocated tirelessly to equip ambulances in her area with life-saving devices so other children have a better chance in emergencies. She supports local foundations and nonprofits. Their whole family serves — coaching sports, volunteering in schools, supporting charities, showing up when others are in need.
They are generous with their time.
Generous with their energy.
Generous with their hearts.
Now it’s time for generosity to surround them.
If many of us contribute what we can, this goal becomes possible. No single person has to do it all. That’s the beauty of community.

Pray. Yes, pray.
We’ve included a prayer section because provision doesn’t only come through finances. Pray for the right van at the right time. Pray for open doors. Pray for favor. Pray for continued strength and protection over James and the entire Edwards family.
If you haven’t yet, please read the article linked above to understand more of James’ story and just how far he has come.
This family has spent years lifting others up. Let’s lift them now — together.
