Support Weston’s Therapy Journey

Weston is a joyful, sweet two-and-a-half-year-old boy with a precious spirit and a determination that inspires everyone around him. He lives with his parents and three siblings, and being surrounded by his family is one of his very favorite things. He loves hearing his siblings play, being outside listening to the birds, listening to music, laughing with the people he loves, and simply being part of the action.

This SupportNow page was created not only to help Weston access the specialized therapies he needs, but also to give the people who love and support him a place to follow his journey, celebrate his progress, and stay connected with his family along the way. We hope you’ll follow along as we share updates about Weston, his therapy, the gains he is making, and all of the moments worth celebrating in between.

A Little About Weston

Weston was born with several brain malformations and has been diagnosed with quadriplegic hypotonic cerebral palsy, a seizure disorder, and cortical vision impairment (CVI).

In simple terms, Weston’s brain and body communicate differently. His cerebral palsy and very low muscle tone make it difficult for him to control and coordinate movements throughout his body. Things like holding himself upright, reaching, moving independently, and completing everyday activities require much more effort for Weston than they do for most children his age. His seizure disorder causes abnormal electrical activity in his brain, while CVI means his brain has difficulty processing and making sense of what his eyes see.

These diagnoses create significant challenges, but they are only one part of Weston’s story.

Weston is determined, hard-working, and incredibly sweet. He gives his all when learning and practicing new skills, even when they require tremendous effort. His calm, loving personality and perseverance shine through every day. He may have to work much harder for milestones that come easily to other children, but Weston continues to show just how much he is capable of when given the right support and opportunities.

Why We’re Raising Funds

Weston’s family is working to give him continued access to specialized physical, occupational, and feeding therapy intensives.

Many of you have already been an incredible part of Weston’s journey. Through previous GoFundMe support, Weston has been able to participate in rounds of specialized therapy that his family otherwise would have had to pay for entirely out of pocket. We are so grateful to everyone who donated, shared his story, prayed, encouraged, and helped make those opportunities possible. Your support has already made a real difference for Weston and his family.

Now, the goal is to keep that momentum going.

Intensive therapy isn’t a one-time treatment for Weston. His therapy team recommends that he participate in these intensives approximately every two months for the foreseeable future so he can continue building on the skills he has been working so hard to develop. Each round gives him another opportunity to practice, strengthen, and build upon what he learned during the last.

Unlike traditional therapy that may take place once a week, intensive therapy provides concentrated, frequent therapy over a shorter period of time. This gives Weston focused time to work on important skills related to movement, independence, participation in daily activities, and feeding.

Unfortunately, this type of specialized therapy does not fit within traditional insurance billing models, which typically authorize therapy in standard individual sessions rather than the concentrated schedule used during an intensive. Because of this, these intensives are not covered by Weston’s insurance, leaving his family responsible for the cost.

Each intensive costs approximately $3,600. With intensives recommended about every two months for the foreseeable future, these costs quickly add up. Our current SupportNow goal is to raise $10,800 to fund Weston’s next three rounds of intensive therapy, helping his family continue this important part of his care over approximately the next six months.

This SupportNow is the next chapter of the support so many people have already given Weston. Previous donations helped make earlier rounds of specialized therapy possible. Now, we want to help him continue that momentum, build on the gains he has already worked so hard for, and keep giving him opportunities to work toward the next ones.

For Weston, these therapies are about so much more than checking off developmental milestones. They are opportunities to build skills that can help him engage with his family and his surroundings, participate more fully in everyday life, and work toward greater independence.
