Meet Winnie, a bright, spunky, and wonderfully sassy 5-year-old whose joy fills every room she rolls into. She also lives with quadriplegic cerebral palsy, and her wheelchair isn’t just equipment—it’s her safe, supportive, and essential way of moving through the world.
Right now, the Ramos family of 6 is facing a challenge many families in their situation know well. Lifting Winnie’s wheelchair in and out of the car has become incredibly difficult, and placing her in a standard car seat isn’t ideal for her body. Her wheelchair is built for her safety, health, and proper positioning, and using it during transportation is what keeps her most comfortable and supported.
For this family, staying together in one vehicle matters. It’s how they live, connect, and show up for each other. But to do that safely, they need a wheelchair-accessible van—a vehicle that allows Winnie to ride securely in the chair designed for her.
These vans come with extraordinary costs, often $70,000–$90,000, far beyond what most families can manage alone.
Today, we’re coming together to support Winnie’s accessible journey and lift up the Ramos family of 6 as they work toward safe, accessible transportation that keeps their family together.
