In Support of The Dudones family
Please share this post. 🤍 thank you for considering and donating. Our family is so grateful to you. Below is an update from Ashley.
I wanted to take a moment to update our friends and family on Andrew and everything that has happened over the last few days.
Andrew suffered a massive pulmonary embolism on wednesday morning, with blood clots in both of his lungs. He was at home alone with our youngest Alex (2.5 years old). During transport to the hospital, Andy went into cardiac arrest and required CPR and other lifesaving measures. He suffered multiple cardiac arrests before the medical team was able to stabilize him.
He was eventually life-flighted to the Cleveland Clinic, where he remains in the ICU, intubated and fighting for his life.
Unfortunately, there have been several serious complications along the way. His blood pressure has remained dangerously low, and he developed significant bleeding in his chest, near his heart and lungs, which doctors believe may have resulted from the CPR.
Doctors initially attempted to control the bleeding but were unable to place a chest tube because his body could not tolerate that portion of the procedure.
Thankfully, the surgical team has now successfully placed a chest tube and drained a significant amount of blood from his chest.
Andrew is also receiving ECMO support, which is a form of advanced life support that helps circulate and oxygenate his blood while his heart and lungs are struggling.
Unfortunately, circulation to his lower legs has become another concern. The medical team is taking him back into surgery to reposition the ECMO tubing from his legs to his neck. They also need to perform a procedure involving his calves because they are not getting adequate circulation.
He continues to receive blood thinners to prevent additional clots while his body works to break down the existing ones. This creates an incredibly difficult balance because of the bleeding complications he has experienced.
His kidneys have also been affected, and temporary dialysis may be necessary. Doctors are continuing to monitor his organ function and evaluate any potential effects from the multiple cardiac arrests.
At this time, Andrew is stable but remains in extremely critical condition. Every day brings new challenges, and we are taking things one hour, one procedure, and one small victory at a time.
We are incredibly grateful for the doctors, nurses, surgeons, and everyone at the Cleveland Clinic who are working tirelessly to give him the best possible chance.
For those who know Andrew, you know how much he means to his family. We have four children who need their dad, and we are holding on to every bit of hope that he will make it through this.
Please continue to pray for Andrew’s healing, for his medical team to have wisdom and steady hands, and for our family to have strength as we navigate something we never imagined facing.
We appreciate every message, phone call, prayer, and offer to help. Even if I cannot respond to everyone individually, please know that your love and support mean more than I can express.
Andrew has a long road ahead of him, but we are not giving up hope. ❤️🙏
I will continue to provide updates as we learn more.
