While traveling in New York for their grandson’s Babe Ruth World Series games, Irma & Miguel were in a horrific car accident. On Sat Aug 22nd, they were struck on the driver’s side by a F350 doing a high rate of speed. Irma has a broken rib and some minor burns along her side and leg from the airbag deploying and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

On Sat Aug 22nd, they were struck on the driver’s side by a F350 doing a high rate of speed. Irma has a broken rib and some minor burns along her side and leg from the airbag deploying and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
Miguel was unresponsive at the scene and was taken via life flight to the same hospital in Buffalo, NY. Miguel suffered a brain bleed and 6 broken ribs. Initially, Miguel’s brain bleed continued to worsen over the first 24 hours but has since, remained stable with no further progression. Irma is being discharged tomorrow Aug 27th but will stay in an Airbnb to be near Miguel for an extended and unknown hospital stay.
Miguel’s brain is still very damaged and fragile. It’s trying to heal from the bleed and swelling, he’s very foggy headed, disoriented, little to no short term memory, (he does have his long term memory). He’s struggling with double vision and is unable to stay awake for more than a few moments.
Their son Jason and his family had just arrived back in Washington State from New York on Friday after the tournament ended and flew back to NY on Sunday, meeting his brothers Juan-Manuel and Liam from California to be by their parent’s sides.
