In Support of Maria (Diaz) Hertzog

Maria (Diaz) Hertzog
Meet Maria Hertzog

Maria Hertzog is a 51-year-old Cincinnati native, wife, friend, and an incredibly spunky, strong, and determined woman who is facing breast cancer head-on. Maria was diagnosed with invasive lobular breast cancer at an early stage, and she is grateful for that early diagnosis as she works with both a local functional medicine oncologist and a conventional oncology team. Over the past six months, Maria has built an extensive integrative treatment plan that focuses on caring for her whole body, mind, and spirit. Her goal is to pursue a comprehensive approach to healing while continuing to live her life, advocate for herself, and remain committed to working full-time throughout her journey. Maria is passionate about using her experience to encourage others who may feel overwhelmed by the medical system and want to understand all of the options available to them.

The road ahead is a long and financially demanding one. Many of the treatments Maria has chosen are not recognized by insurance, leaving her responsible for a significant portion of the cost. Her first 8 weeks of treatment totaled approximately $40,000, and she will need multiple additional months of care. Her treatment plan includes EBOO (Extracorporeal Blood Oxygenation and Ozonation), IV Artemisinin, IV Vitamin C, IV Mistletoe, IV Melatonin, localized and whole-body hyperthermia, HOCATT sauna, whole-body red light therapy, and RIFE therapy. Maria is determined to keep moving forward, but no one should have to carry a financial burden like this alone.

This is where we come in. Maria has spent so much of her life being strong for others, and now it is our turn to be strong for her. As a community, we are rallying around Maria—helping shoulder the financial weight, surrounding her with encouragement, and reminding her that she does not have to walk this road alone. Follow along here for updates, victories, needs, and the moments in between as Maria continues this journey. Every share, every donation, every meal, every helping hand, and every message of encouragement matters.

Maria has chosen to use a SupportNow page because it gives her community one central place to come together and support her throughout this journey. SupportNow allows families to raise funds while also coordinating meals, “Lend a Hand” support, updates, and other practical needs as circumstances change. Families keep more of the money they raise than with traditional fundraising platforms like GoFundMe, making it a meaningful way for Maria’s community to maximize the support being given. Most importantly, it gives everyone one place to follow her journey, stay updated, and surround Maria with support without adding more overwhelm to her plate.
