This is Caramel Corn, a 10-year-old stray I rescued from the San Jose flea market a few weeks ago. She was tiny, skinny, dirty, covered in fleas, and drooling like crazy. I couldn’t just leave here there, so I brought her home with me. After two weeks of doxycycline (for her URI), terramycin (for watery eyes), and lots of brushing and TLC, she already seems like a brand new cat. She’s cuddly and so sweet, and she just wants to be brushed and petted constantly. However, she has a lot of problems with her teeth and swelling in her mouth, and has a few lumps on her belly that need to be checked out.

The original idea was to get her healthy and return her to her colony at the flea market, but she’s been diagnosed with FIV and can no longer be an outdoor kitty. I’ve reached out to many rescues in the area and have yet to find one that would be willing to take her in, so for now she’s staying with me for the foreseeable future.

The wonderful vets at Santa Clara Pet Hospital have treated my cats and the family’s pets for years, and I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my animals’ regular care. They determined that the lump on her abdomen is potentially cancerous and needs to be removed, and it can then be sent out for analysis. Because this would require CC to be put under anesthesia, the vets determined that it would be a good time to give her a full dental exam as well so we can get a better idea of what’s going on in her mouth. Her surgery is scheduled for August 6.

As most pet owners know, anesthesia and dental work are not cheap. The vet estimates that this surgery will cost from $1200 to $1500, and unfortunately I’ve been struggling financially for a while and will not be able to pay the full amount on my own. I’ve applied for financial aid from several rescues and other pet resources, but it’s rough out there for everyone right now and I haven’t qualified for any help yet.

If it’s within your financial means, it would really mean a lot to me and CC if you could donate to her surgery costs. Any little bit is extremely appreciated! And if donating isn’t possible, just sharing our page would be a really helpful way to contribute. Thank you so much!
