Meet Calvin Hughes
Calvin is an almost 2-year-old little boy from North Dakota with a smile that lights up every room. He has been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, and every day his parents, Christine and Cody, work tirelessly to help him reach his fullest potential.
After extensive research and conversations with other families, they have learned that one of the most impactful opportunities available to young children with Cerebral Palsy is Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI). DMI is an intensive therapy approach designed to improve motor development by challenging the brain and body to build new movement patterns. For children in Calvin's age and weight range, this therapy can be especially powerful because it takes advantage of the brain's incredible neuroplasticity during the earliest years of development.
The opportunity they are pursuing is at All Kids Are Perfect in North Carolina, a unique program that combines DMI with occupational therapy and other specialized services in an intensive setting. Therapists recommend returning every 3β4 months while children are young and under approximately 35β40 pounds, making these early years especially important.
Calvin's family is hoping to secure funding for two intensive therapy rounds, with the goal of getting him into a potential opening as early as August. Each intensive costs approximately $8,000 when therapy, travel, lodging, and related expenses are included. While this is a significant investment for any family, they know these early interventions could have a lasting impact on Calvin's future.
As a family of seven, these trips will also place extra demands on home life. One reason they chose SupportNow is because it allows friends and family to support them in multiple ways.
