Help Support Baby Hayes Nelson Raab and His Family
Our family is asking for prayers, love, and support for my sweet newborn nephew, Baby Hayes, the precious son of my brother and sister-in-law.
After Gavyn and Chafin both proudly served our country in the Air Force, they have always been the kind of people who put others first. Today, they find themselves facing a battle no parent ever expects, and we hope to surround them with the same kindness and support they have shown others throughout their lives.
Just days after welcoming Hayes into the world, every parent's worst nightmare became a reality. He developed dangerously low oxygen levels and had to be transported by not one, but two emergency aid teams before being admitted to the children's hospital, where he remains as doctors work tirelessly to care for him and search for answers.
Hayes has been diagnosed with Ebstein's anomaly, a rare congenital heart defect. He is currently intubated, has a central line in place, and is receiving medications in hopes of avoiding heart surgery. While we are praying these treatments are successful, doctors have shared that heart surgery is likely in his future—whether in the coming days or later on.
As any loving parents would, Mom and Dad have not left his side. They live over an hour from the hospital, making daily travel incredibly difficult. Between hospital bills, hotel stays, gas, meals away from home, and taking unpaid leave from work to be with baby, the financial burden is growing quickly during an already overwhelming time.
Adding to the challenge, much of our family is spread across the country. Hayes, his brother Wyatt and his parents are in Michigan, while many of us are in Washington and Florida. Being so far away has left us wishing we could do more, so we're coming together in the best way we know how.
If you feel led to help, your prayers, kind thoughts, donations, meals, and shares are all deeply appreciated. Every gift, no matter the amount, helps relieve some of the financial stress so Mom and Dad can focus on what matters most—being by Hayes' side and helping him fight.
Most importantly, we ask for your prayers. Please pray for complete healing for Baby Hayes, wisdom and guidance for his doctors and nurses, peace and strength for his parents, and comfort for our entire family as we walk through this together.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your generosity, your prayers, and your love. We are believing in miracles and trusting that Hayes is surrounded by an incredible community lifting him up every step of the way.
