Hello Friends,

Our dear friend, Alysha, has recently received a life-threatening diagnosis of a rare and aggressive form of stomach cancer called Linitis Plastica

This type of cancer affects the lining of the stomach, making it difficult to detect early and especially challenging to treat. In Alysha’s case, it has also impacted the area where the stomach meets the esophagus.

Alysha is walking through an incredibly difficult and demanding treatment journey.

She began chemotherapy on April 29, consisting of six rounds spaced two weeks apart. Following chemotherapy, she will face a total gastrectomy, a major surgery to remove her entire stomach. They will also be removing the affected part of the esophagus. This will require a long and intense recovery of approximately 8–12 weeks if there are no complications. After surgery, she will continue with additional chemotherapy as part of her fight.

*** Update: As of July the doctors have recommended doing 6 more rounds of chemo and 3 more rounds of immunotherapy before surgery. She has been responding well to the treatments, and actually putting on some weight with manageable side effects! They want her to gain as much as possible before the surgery since she will lose a significant amount again post-surgery. This will also give the surgeon a better chance of getting it all. She has now completed round 8, with 4 more to go. There will be a 6 week gap between the last treatment and surgery, which is now scheduled for November 11.

This is not just physically exhausting but also emotionally, mentally, and financially overwhelming.

While we all know Alysha to be incredibly strong and determined, this season will require everything she has and a tribe/ village to support her.

She is planning to work as much as she is able during treatment, but the reality is that her ability to do so may be very limited as her body undergoes these aggressive treatments and healing. Her employers at Woodhouse Spa have been extremely supportive and caring, allowing her time off for her treatments and appointments. However, being in the service industry, there is no short-term disability to help with living expenses and medical bills. She does have insurance through work, but it does have a high out-of-pocket cost/ deductable. Being that Alysha is single and does not have a second household income, this will be a very challenging time.

However, we, her friends and coworkers, have all pledged to surround Alysha with love, prayer, encouragement, and tangible support.

This CaringBridge page has been set up to help ease the financial burden of medical expenses, recovery time, and daily living costs during this incredibly challenging season.

If you feel led, we invite you to:

  • Pray for strength, healing, and peace for Alysha

  • Share this page to spread support

  • Give if you are able, to help lift the financial weight she is carrying

Because of the nature of Alysha's surgery and the recovery ahead, she will need to follow a very specific, restricted diet. While we are so grateful for every thoughtful offer of meals, homemade dishes may not be suitable during this time. Instead, gift cards to healthy grocery stores or food delivery services would be an incredible blessing, allowing her to purchase the foods that best support her healing and meet her dietary needs.

More than anything, we want Alysha to know that she is not facing this journey alone. Every prayer, every act of kindness, and every expression of love remind her that she has an entire community standing beside her.

Alysha… you are deeply loved by all of us, and we are standing with you every step of the way!
