Help Us Rally Around Zane After an Unimaginable Loss
Yesterday, our neighbors experienced a tragedy that no family should ever have to endure.
Shavon suffered a sudden, catastrophic emergency at home, with her son, Zane, there when it happened. She was Life Flighted to the hospital, but devastatingly, physicians determined there were no lifesaving procedures that could be performed. Shavon was ultimately declared braindead.
For Zane, who has only recently turned 18, this loss comes after already experiencing more heartbreak than most people face in a lifetime. Just two years ago, he lost his biological father to suicide. Now, at only 18 years old, Zane is facing life without either of his biological parents.
We met Shavon shortly after moving onto their road, and one thing became apparent very quickly: she absolutely adored her son. She was always sharing stories about Zane, and the pride and love she had for him were impossible to miss.
Shavon was also an incredibly hard worker. She decorated cakes, taught cake-decorating lessons, and was constantly working toward creating a better future for herself and her son. In fact, tomorrow—Monday, August 24—was supposed to mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter for her as she took the first steps toward pursuing a career in nursing.
Instead, her family is now preparing to say goodbye.
Even in her death, Shavon is giving to others through the gift of organ donation. Her life will continue to touch families she will never have the opportunity to meet.
And now we want to make sure her son is not left to navigate what comes next alone.
We are asking our friends, neighbors, and community to rally around Zane. Funds raised will help ease the immediate financial burdens he faces and provide some stability as he grieves, makes arrangements, and begins figuring out a future that suddenly looks very different than it did just days ago.
