In Support of Union Park Junior Gardeners
Union Park Community Garden is home to an inclusive homeschool collective - the junior gardeners - and soon a 4H cloverbuds group as well as other gardeners in a low income area. Many years ago, a fiberglass greenhouse was donated by a community member and it was greatly appreciated and well used. However, it began shedding and had to be removed. We have been fundraising to get a new one but as everyone knows, costs have risen and we came up very short. A greenhouse in this garden would allow for season extension, year round projects for the kids, and the ability to grow starts for ourselves and the greater community. Our goals include becoming as self sufficient as possible with the greenhouse and composting as well as creating a little free pantry to provide both fresh produce and dry goods with the aim of combating food insecurity in the area.
