Tiffany’s Fight
Cary and Latoya's beautiful, amazing baby girl, Tiffany, has been diagnosed with leukemia. ❤️
What started as what they thought was a simple tummy ache turned into something none of them could have imagined. For about a week, Tiffany had been having mild stomach pain. They thought it might be menstrual cramps or that she simply needed to use the restroom, so they gave her Motrin and tried to help her feel comfortable.
Last night, her pain became severe. She was bent over in pain, so they took her to the ER. They initially thought they were dealing with a bowel obstruction, and Tiffany was almost sent home. Thankfully, LaToya insisted that they at least do blood work. That decision changed everything.
Tiffany’s white blood cell count was five times the normal amount, and she was transferred to OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. After further testing, they were told that she has leukemia. They don't yet know exactly what type or what stage, and there are still many questions they don't have answers to.
Tomorrow, Tiffany will undergo a bone marrow biopsy and a spinal tap. They are preparing themselves for what will likely be three weeks to a month in the hospital, beginning the long road ahead of them.
Looking back now, there were signs they didn't recognize. She had been more fatigued, and her appetite had changed, but it was summertime. Her sleep schedule was off. There were so many ordinary explanations that made sense at the time. They never imagined they were looking at something like this.
Right now, their entire world has been turned upside down. Their focus is Tiffany and getting her through this fight, while also trying to care for and support their other children through something none of them were prepared for.
They are incredibly grateful for every person who has reached out, checked on them, brought them food, sat with their other children, helped care for them, or simply reminded them that they aren't alone. Every single act of kindness means more than they can put into words.
To those they haven't responded to personally, please know that they see you. They see your messages, your love, your offers to help, and your support. They simply don't have the capacity to respond to everyone right now. When they can, they will.
They are taking this one day, one test, and one step at a time. Please keep Tiffany in your thoughts and prayers as they begin this fight with her. ❤️
If you are able to help their family financially during this time, they would be incredibly grateful. The coming weeks and months will bring medical expenses, time away from work, travel, food, childcare, and all of the unexpected costs that come with having a child in the hospital.
Thank you for loving their girl and standing beside their family. Tiffany is so loved, and they are going to fight like hell for her. ❤️
