In Support of The Werners

The Werners
On September 13, my brother-in-law, Nik suffered a cardiac event in the middle of the night. Thanks to the quick actions of his family and their life giving CPR, he is still with us. He suffered a collapsed lung and was put on a ventilator. He has since had a stent put in his artery and was moved to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He's had an additional surgery to open an artery in his leg and finally seems to be moving towards recovery. This Friday, they finally weaned him off sedation, took him off the ventilator, and he was able to interact with family. He has no memory of the event. This whole thing has been very terrifying. As many of you may know, Nik is self-employed at his private practice. The hospital is an hour and a half from their home. Elke is currently staying in a hotel.Β  No one knows how long Nik will be unable to work and Elke is balancing work with care needs, all of which put added stress on the family. Any help is welcome as the family navigates this tough time.Β
