Joel is a sweet little boy with a bright smile and so much potential. After being diagnosed with periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) and cerebral palsy, his parents, David and Damaris, have remained committed to giving him every opportunity to grow, learn, and reach new milestones. They are pursuing therapies that offer hope for continued progress, even though many of them are not covered by insurance.
Joel has already been accepted for Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) therapy. Each week-long intensive costs approximately $2,500, and his therapy team recommends he attend once every quarter for the next 2–3 years.
His family is also hoping to pursue stem cell therapy, which has been recommended 2–3 times. Each treatment costs approximately $12,500 before travel, making it another significant investment in Joel’s future.
Raising a child with a disability or complex diagnosis comes with extraordinary costs. The estimated lifetime cost can range from $1.4 to $2.4 million, compared to approximately $240,000 for a neurotypical child. Along with the financial commitment comes countless hours spent traveling to appointments, attending therapies, and advocating for the care Joel needs.
We invite you to follow Joel’s journey as he works toward new milestones. Your prayers, encouragement, shares, and support mean the world to David and Damaris and help make these opportunities possible. Thank you for believing in Joel and walking alongside their family.
