Please Keep Kristen and Thomas in Your Thoughts and Prayers July 2026 Update
As many of you know, Kristen lives with a rare liver disease called Von Gierke's Disease (Glycogen Storage Disease Type 1a). For the most part, her health has held steady over the years, with just a few bumps along the way.
Kristen has managed adenomas (growths) on her liver for most of her life. During her pregnancy, hormonal changes caused them to grow rapidly, requiring doctors to deliver their son prematurely. Since then, doctors have continued monitoring the adenomas, and unfortunately, they have grown further, with one now suspected to be cancerous.
This Monday, Kristen and Thomas will be heading to Houston and she will be admitted to the hospital on Tuesday morning to get stable enough for surgery on July 9th. During this procedure, doctors will remove more than half of her liver to take out the adenomas, including the one that will be sent for testing. Please join us in praying that it is not cancerous.
Because this is such an extensive surgery, Kristen will need an extended hospital stay in Houston, which is hours away from their home. Once she is released, she will need to remain near the hospital for at least three more weeks to recover, which means Thomas and their son will also need a place to stay nearby during that time. Between the medical costs, travel, and lodging, this has created a significant financial burden during an already difficult time.
